Supernatural Gifts
As you all know I intended to send some gifts to Asylum 6 – the Supernatural Convention in Birmingham, UK – For Jensen Ackles and his wife Danneel Harris. You all very kindly voted on the Supernatural inspired pendant that you wanted me to make for him – a silver Enochian Devils Trap.
To be totally honest I hadn’t thought of making Danneel a gift until it was mentioned that it
would be their first wedding anniversary at the same time that Asylum 6 was happening. When I heard that I felt that I couldn’t send a gift for Jensen and not one for Danneel. Luckily I had some silver, so I made her the etched heart pendant. I etched a small message on the back, this message has been shared with only a few people and I intend to keep it that way. *and no, it wasn’t my website address or a ‘please come live with me’ message – although, now I think about it, maybe it should have been*
I also made my Twitter Wife @Pumperninkel a silver Deanulet, as she was the wonderful person that was going to be handing the gifts over *light bulb moment – this is why people think I’m a ‘dude’ instead of female*
Fast forward a few weeks and it was time for Asylum 6, I can’t explain how totally excited and nervous I was, even though I wasn’t able to attend. I could barely sleep or eat *which was kind of good for my LittlerFairies 3lb challenge* even my Husband was excited, texting me from work, in the middle of the night to see if I’d heard anything. *see, I am a chick not a dude*
Saturday morning saw me almost popping with squeeeeeeee-ing excitement, but I heard later on that day that they were going to be handed over at the Autograph opportunity on Sunday. *tries to remain calm*
Sunday morning arrived and found me avidly watching the #Asylum6 tweets and finding out that Pumperninkel was unwell. As much as I wanted the gifts handing over, I also did not want her to make herself ill. I hoped it would still be accomplished but knew if it wasn’t then it would be ok, the thought was there and they had tried.
Sunday evening saw me almost bursting with the need to know what had happened . . . and eventually I did.
Good News and Bad News
Danneel’s pendant had been handed to Jensen at the Autograph op. I wasn’t there, but my spy told me that he was pleased to receive a gift for Danneel and said ‘Thank you so much’.
Nothing had been said about the Enochian Devil’s Trap pendant so far. Then I received a text from Pumperninkel which told me the bad news. Unfortunately the pendant had been lost on the way to the Autograph op and no-one had handed it in. So Pumperninkel had given Jensen her Deanulet instead and informed him that the original pendant had been lost
and not handed in. She told me that he was really happy to receive the gifts, especially the one for Danneel. I am thrilled that they have their gifts, more so that I made one for Danneel after the awful tweets I read about her being at Asylum 6.
So, it didn’t work out exactly as planned but it worked out eventually. Many thanks to Julianne, Silje and Louise for doing this for me. I really am very grateful to you all for accomplishing your ‘gift giving’ mission on my behalf and hope that you all had an epic time at Asylum 6.
The Week I Made Shiny Things and Had An Etching Drama
Today is a bad, bad day, but the rest of the week has seen me in my workroom being productive. *gasp* Things have been going great in my workroom other than the Etching Drama and a slight problem with soldering on Monday, I have now labelled Monday as a day never to attempt to solder on. Thursday, however, seems to be the perfect day for soldering on and I managed to get a lot of the next Custom Piece I’m working on done. The photos of this piece will be added to the Custom Piece part of my site when it is completed. If you really can’t wait, then you can find everything I’ve been up to on my FaceBook fanpage – The Sparkly Little Fairy Cult.
Firstly, a huge thank you to the gentleman who commissioned the Silver Koi Carp necklace, for his wife’s birthday, for allowing me to use the picture he sent me of her wearing it. I’m pleased to say the piece was greatly received and the feedback was wonderful. Prices start from £45 for these Custom pendants, fitted on to pre-made silver chains. As these are not full Custom Pieces there is no waiting list. Please contact me to enquire about ordering one.
I also made two different etched silver heart pendants this week. The one on the far left is a special gift for someone. Details for that will be announced after it has been handed over to the relevant person *intriguing, eh?*
The second was a purchase from my online store. You can purchase your own customisable silver pendant here, with a selection of different stencils to choose from and you can add a small message to the back of the pendant for free.
Next, I completed the silver Devils Trap that had been pre-ordered. I have to say it really was a labour of love to make. All that drilling holes *shudder* and scribbing out the details on it actually left me with a migraine *should find her glasses at some point* Get your hands on your own version here
Etching Drama
I had been asked by a close friend if I could make the Supernatural Protection Tattoo pendant into a small silver bracelet version. As it was her birthday coming up I decided I’d make it as a gift. *saves trying to think of a gift* As you can see from the picture it was very teenie but I managed to saw it out and prepare it to be etched. Then I took the children out for the afternoon, forgetting that this particular piece had been in the etching acid for about 3 hours before I left the house.
And I came home to this, er puddle of undistinguishable etched silver. Lesson learnt, don’t leave small items in the etching acid for 10 hours.
Thanks for Voting and a Charity Auction
A big thank you to everyone that voted on which Supernatural related pendant I should make in silver to be presented to Jensen Ackles in May. The winner was this one, the Enochian Devils Trap.
I will also be making another silver one of these to be donated to the charity auction hosted by the lovely Pamela Love. Full details for this auction can be found in the FaceBook Group, I Blame Jared Padalecki For Everything.
Want to get your hands on your own? Find it in my store, here.
MORE NEWS: I am still attempting to get the Angel Banishing Sigil to work out the way I see it in my head. Bear with me and I’m sure I can do you all proud.
Chic Unique Interview
My second interview is with Liz over at Chic Unique jewellery. I have to admit her jewellery is very beautiful and reasonably priced. I have bought a necklace from here and received a cute pair of earrings for free too.
Firstly, could you tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Liz, I’m 28, a full time mum to 3 girls, Elissa, Emma and Zoe *not Zoo as she originally put in the email* and long suffering wife to Simon. I’m a bit of a geek and I’m not ashamed to say so. I love movies, music and fashion and all I have ever wanted to own is a cottage in the country with roses round the door, it’s been my ambition since I was 6! I also want to own a vintage car and call it Betsy.
What inspired you to become a jewellery designer/maker?
I am naturally artistic and have tried my hand at all sorts of crafts, this just stuck and I really enjoy doing it, hopefully, differently to everyone else.
What is your favourite item that you made to sell?
Hmmm that’s a toughie, I love every piece I make but I think the Cut of Beauty is definitely a winner for me.
You can buy the Cut of Beauty necklace here and also get matching earrings too.
Where do you get your inspiration for your pieces?
I try to think outside the box as much as possible and just playing with the girls can give me a flash of inspiration.
Other than making jewellery, what else do you like to do?
Sewing!!!
Where do you see yourself this time next year? – to do with your jewellery
Hopefully as an established brand.
What are your favourite materials, and why?
Acrylic, it’s so easy to work with and gives amazing results.
Where can people find out more about you and your jewellery?
and my new blog http://chic-unique.blogspot.com/
Monster Spider and a Fish
Some of you may remember way back to when I was making the Greenman piece, yes it was shrouded in secrecy but that didn’t stop me tweeting about the moment I lost one of the etched silver links. It took half a day to make two links so losing one was worthy of a twitter rant. It just kind of vanished into thin air and after much searching I ended up having to make a new one. All the time thinking that the Monster Spider that lives in my workroom had probably stolen it. *there is no way I am ever taking on that particular spider*
That was about 6 months ago . . . the other day I had
a cleaning spree and decided to tackle the Monster Spider’s lair. I wore my Husband’s shoes *bigger shoes = less likely for Monster Spider to get near my toes* A few hours later – and a few almost nearly died of fright, but there wasn’t anything hiding in there moments – and the space under my workbench was tidy and organised and had revealed the missing Triple Goddess link. At least when Monster Spider left the building it left my silver link.
It seemed a shame to waste the link now that I had found it, after much thinking cap action I decided to make it into a ring, then today I remembered that I had some twisted silver that I’d made years ago with the intention of making into a ring, and . . . tadaaaaaaa a shiny Triple Goddess symbol ring.
SIlver Koi Carp – other custom projects
This week I finished the silver koi carp necklace that I had been making for someone.
I’ve never made a fish before, well, not a proper one. I made basic fish shapes for the octopus necklace, but not one that included scales and had to look like a specific fish. I had to scribe all those scales out of the varnish I use when etching, it was worth it though as the result looks awesome.
I also finally finished the silver Deanulet and it will be on it’s way to it’s owner soon. I really think it looks amazing in silver *No, I’m not just saying that because the silver version is more expensive*
I Need Your Help
Poll
Hey, look at me, I went and got me a Poll to add into this blog post *crosses fingers that it works*. If you’ve read my previous Supernatural related blog posts you’ll know of my plan to get a silver version of one of my Supernatural inspired pendants presented to Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) at Asylum 6. I keep changing my mind as to which one I want to give him so, here’s where you all come in, I thought it’d be great if you could all vote on which one you think should be given to Jensen.
More Devil’s Traps and a Supernatural Party
And finally . . . I managed to get the other version of the Devils Trap done. I don’t know what happened with my enthusiasm to get this piece completed, I just couldn’t get my head round it for days. I am pleased to say that I finally completed it and that the first silver one has already been ordered. You can get your very own version of this Devils Trap Pendant here in either gilding metal or silver.
I also altered the Enochian Devils Trap that I did before, the one that the etching acid had a drama with. I pierced out parts of the star and also pierced out the 5 symbols around the outside. A fairly simple, if time consuming, procedure but it was certainly worth it. I love how it looks now and am proud to add it to my Supernatural range of pendants. You can purchase one here in either gilding metal or silver.
Supernatural Party
As you are reading this blog I figure you are either a huge Supernatural fan, like myself, or you just really love me and are prepared to read about my geekiness. If it’s the latter then I LOVE YOU TOO, if it’s the former then you want to be getting over to the Supernatural Party website and joining in with the Supernatural End of Season 6 party that is being held. There are plenty of awesome prizes to be won. I have offered to donate a Deanulet, an Enochian Devils Trap and an Intricate Devils Trap pendant as prizes (these will be the gilding metal versions) but there are plenty more prizes and a very special prize that we will all be wanting.
Fantasy Jewelry Goddess Interview
I know a lot of jewellery makers, jewellery designers, crafty types, photographic artwork types, arty types . . . all manner of awesome people, so be warned, I will be catching up with you all shortly for interviews.
Now, first up, in what I hope to be a regular feature on my website, is Mrs Emma Downey over at Fantasy Jewelry Goddess. I can’t lie to you, I love the lady. She is the fairy godmother of my daughter and we have been through an awful lot together . . . good times, bad times, despair, desperation, times we thought we’d never get through . . . which is why she was my first choice for this blog/interview. Please read, enjoy, comment and visit her website.
Firstly, could you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hello everybody reading this *waves and blows a kiss* My name is Emma and I am 21 (plus another 10 ) years old. I am the wife of a very hot US Army First Class Sergeant *Editor’s note: Not that she likes to rub it in* and a Mother to four incredible kids, (two of those are step kids). I live, work and play in the beautiful state of Pennsylvania, USA but I am originally from the UK. Born and raised a Brit Chick! I moved to Pennsylvania last year to marry my soul mate and live happily ever after . . . It’s been a long, exciting and sometimes painful journey over the last few years, with deployment, a wedding, house hunting and an immigration, we’ve had our fair share of it all. but we are now fairly settled and so sit back and let the story begin . . .
What inspired you to become a jewelry designer/maker?
Honestly, I watched a Youtube lesson on how to make a wire wrapped ring. This got me excited and lead me to seek out more information. I found an article on how to make earrings and so went on to good old EBay and ordered just a few basic things. When they arrived I could hardly wait to get started and once I had gotten the children to bed that night, I got straight to work. It was a lickle tricky at first but by the end of the night I had made lots of earrings and was already trying out new ideas. I remember how fast the night went, which was great, normally nights went very slow as my now Husband was deployed in Iraq so I didn’t sleep too well as you can imagine. I took my earrings to show my Mother the next day, she thought they were awesome and off she went like proud mothers do, telling everyone. At this time I was training in a local school and it was suggested that I take some in to try and sell to the staff. I couldn’t believe it when people started buying and wearing my earrings. It is such a buzz to see people wearing your designs. Plus I was making a lickle bit of cash. With a wedding and immigration on the horizon, we needed all the cash we could get hold of. I now wanted to try and create other things and suddenly had the confidence to do so. I, again, went to EBay and ordered different things. I mentioned my recent interest to a good friend of mine, you may know her actually, Mrs Sandra Richie, aka Little Fairy Cult. She reminded me of how before we had met, she went to college and was taught how to make jewelry. I suddenly remembered her silver octopus necklace that I was so fond of when we first met. Since then Sandra has helped me through the confusions or problems that would occur during my self-teaching period and definitely became a kind of mentor and guide to me. *Editor’s note: your cheque is in the mail*
What is your favourite item that you made to sell?
I haven’t sold my favourite piece actually. I have them on display in our home. My favourite piece or should I say pieces, were what I made for our wedding. It was certainly very challenging for me due to the lack of experience I had. But I knew what I wanted and was able to create it. I made a small crown/ tiara for myself with a matching necklace and did the same for our youngest daughter, who was to be a flower fairy at our wedding. this was probably my favourite piece, I love how colourful and playful it is.
Right now I do have a piece up for sale on my website, which I just love. It has a glass snake as the pendant, its hard to show on a photo of it but the snake has gold sparkles running down it. I will be sad when it is sold as it is so unique. I hope it finds its owner soon.
There is also a gorgeous, kind of evil, sexy, Gothic type Heart necklace up on Etsy, which I just adore and will be sad to see leave me.
Where do you get your inspiration for your pieces?
My inspiration comes from so many places now, It may be colours I’ve seen outside or on a piece of clothing, sometimes I will find a pendant and just take inspiration from that to create the necklace. Even my kids have become inspirations, they will suggest something, which is normally impossible to do but I take that idea and mould it into something that is possible. Seasons in the year definitely play a big part in my pieces along with my mood too. You can tell if I was feeling girlie, sexy or really dark by what I make at the time.
Other than making jewelry, what else do you like to do?
Right now, I spend so much of my time trying to get my website noticed. I sometimes feel mentally exhausted. I’ve just started selling Avon to try and make a lickle bit of income. The rest of the time I tend to our home, kids and my Husband. Our youngest daughter does Ballet, youngest son does baseball, eldest son plays basket ball, soccer and is due to start Tag Football and our Eldest daughter is going to be starting softball. The Army often steals my Husband too. So there is always something going on in my life. Other than that I like to take bubble baths, eat cake and chocolates . . .oh and love to drink pink champagne, *Editor’s note: I can vouch for the drinking* own sparkly things and of course I adore shopping.
Where do you see yourself this time next year? – to do with your jewelry.
At Christmas time I had an open house party displaying my jewelry, it was a great success and we are in the process of arranging another one before Mothers day (in the USA that’s May 8th). I also have a party booking for June at someone’s home. So possibly doing more party bookings. In my head of course (it can be quite scary in there) I see Fantasy Jewelry Goddess doing well. Finally getting out there and making many sales, I see me working busily and taking orders for custom made pieces, having many more happy and returning customers, meaning I can stay at home and be a great mom and wife as well as being a great business woman and pushing my designs to the limit, whilst doing something I truly love. Maybe a new site too.
I just want to be successful in my work and make my family and friends proud of me. They believe in my work and talents, they believe I will achieve business success. I’m not going to let them down, they never let me down and so I owe it to them to make this work. Not to mention I owe it to myself as well!
What are your favourite materials, and why?
It was crystals as I am drawn to the sparkle and lustre of them but lately I’ve become hooked on glass, especially glass pendants. I think they are so unique and often there is never two pieces exactly the same. That’s how I like to roll. I want customers of Fantasy Jewelry Goddess to have the knowledge of knowing their piece is unique to them, it represents who they are, how they feel, what they love. Fantasy Jewelry Goddess is about freedom of expressing yourself. I want people to celebrate who they are and how unique each one of us is. Why should we all walk around in the same things? I want Fantasy Jewelry Goddess to be able to give people the power to say “ This is me, this is who I am, deal with it!” And that’s what glass pieces do I believe. It also feels really nice in your hands.
Where can people find out more about you and your jewelry?
Fantasy Jewelry Goddess can be found at www.fantasyjewelrygoddess.com
I also have some pieces on Etsy.
you can email me in order to discuss a custom piece being made too or even to just say hello at emma@fantasyjewelrygoddess.com
I Heart Supernatural, but now my eyes ache
Again, another Supernatural related post . . . apologies, but I can’t help it, blame @twiglet37 for asking me to try and make these things. This time it was Devils Traps. Yep, those things that keep Demons in their meat suits and right where you want them. *ponders placing one on her mattress and getting Crowley to come over* Day dreams aside, I found two versions of these Devils Trap things, that I recognised from the show. The first one being a simple one for when you don’t have time to make an elaborate one.
It was not very intricate and fairly basic, so I decided to start making that one into a pendant first. The one in the picture went a bit wrong as my etching acid was having an off day and didn’t etch a nice clean etch but decided to add a mottled effect to it. I think I will be doing this version again as I am not happy with it.
The next one I found, I thought I recognised as being the Mother of all Devils Traps and we all know that if you’re going to keep a demon prisoner, then you’re going to want an elaborate one that takes ages to do and is less likely to break.
This one looked really daunting and I kind of thought I might just forget I’d seen this picture and stick with the simple version . . . but I had seen this picture and set about making it into a piece of jewellery.
I didn’t want it to be a just a disc of metal this time so decided to pierce out parts of the design – Good Idea!
After marking it out I realised that I had to not only drill 21 tiny holes in it, I then had to use my saw to pierce out the 21 sections that I’d drilled holes in. Bad Idea!
Hours later I had produced the blank piece shown. It kind of got my hopes up that it would turn out as I saw it in my head after all the drilling and sawing was over. Then, came scribing the design onto the metal then preparing it for etching and scribing the design out of the varnish I use. As I was doing this I noticed that the runes around the edge looked similar to ones I’d used before. Cue another plan – trying to translate the runes. Never let it be said that I am easily distract . . . oooooohhhh, shiny things . . .
So I translated the runes and asked a few questions of other Supernatural fans about the Devils Trap runes. I was directed to the Supernaturalwiki page about Devil Traps, which can be found here and also contains links to the Lesser Key of Solomon, from which the Devils Traps we see in Supernatural have their origins. A bit of reading led me to believe that the picture I had come across, whilst very similar, was not an actual Devils Trap used in Supernatural and the runes had been added by someone. Here’s the translation I got from the one I used for the piece I did.
“Samuel John Winchester, Key of Solomon go upon the land and
their young land and the dragon shalt the tread under thy feet”
Well, that’s what I think it says. It might not, it probably doesn’t, but from the runes I was using, that is what it translates as.
Bizarre! Anyway, after all that I finally got the Devils Trap in the etching acid and impatiently waited for it to be ready. As you can see from the photo, it came out pretty awesome. Few minor mistakes but on the whole I am super pleased with how epic it looks.
Also, you’ll notice that I didn’t do the exact runes, more of an interpretation of them. My eyes ache a lot now, but I think it was worth it.
I Heart Supernatural
I love Supernatural (the TV show), I really am stupidly addicted to Sam and Dean and their ‘67 Impala. So when @Pumperninkel and @FudginRenegade suggested I tried to make a version of Dean Winchester’s amulet I got my thinking cap on and came up with this.
Not too bad, eh! Not exactly the same, but as a hand made representation of the actual amulet I think I did pretty well. You can purchase the Deanulet here in Gilding Metal (gold tone) or Silver and add an inscription to the back. In fact @Pumperninkel has ordered the very first silver one and I am giving a Gilding Metal one away for the End of Season Supernatural party that @SammWinchester is organising. If you are on Twitter and are part of the Supernatural fandom, I think you will love all the games and prizes offered.
Myself and @Pumperninkel hatched a plan for her to give one of these to Jensen Ackles at Asylum 6 in May 2011 and the Hashtag #fairymessageforJensen was started as a way of getting ideas for a message to be put on the back of the amulet.
Fast Forward a few days and I have a new piece to add to my Supernatural inspired jewellery. This one came into being thanks to @twiglet37 enquiring about possible inscriptions for the back of a Deanulet that she wanted to purchase . . . Sam and Dean’s protection tattoo!
Much as I love tinkering in my workroom and finding out new ways to do things, I kind of thought that the Protection symbol was going to be too fiddly to etch onto the back of a Deanulet, especially as it is made in two pieces and riveted together at the back. Again the thinking cap was donned, and I came up with making the Protection Tattoo as a separate piece of jewellery and set about tinkering.
I love how it came out and instantly knew that I would be keeping this initial piece for myself – it is currently adorning my neck. So now the plan has changed to trying to give Jensen a silver version of the Protection Tattoo pendant, possibly with a message inscribed on the back. You can purchase your own version in Gilding Metal (gold tone) or Silver here.
The next Supernatural inspired piece will be attempting to make the Devils Trap into a wearable piece of jewellery. Many thanks to @twiglet37, again, for asking me to try this out too.
If you have any ideas for Supernatural inspired jewellery that you would like please leave a comment on this blog. x
Little Fairy’s Other Custom Projects
Occasionally, I get requests to make Custom jewellery that I can work into my list. Something that needs doing quickly, or something that I figure won’t take up too much time and detract too much of my attention from the piece I’m working on at that moment. These pieces, whilst just as special, never make it into my gallery of Custom Pieces, so I decided to add them into this section of my website.
