Back in my workroom, back making jewellery, back drinking copious amounts of coffee . . . but not yet back in my skinny jeans.

With the arrival of our new addition mere weeks away I have been looking for things to help me pass the time. Nothing too time consuming or tiring or energetic. As many of you may have seen I have started making cute little Chibi charm keychains/bag charms.  I admit, I am addicted to making these and I am planning on adding a few more to my webstore when I can make them.

My first Chibi range is Star Wars inspired Chibi charms. Of course, I can’t go making new items without making something ‘zombie’ related too. So I made cute little Zombie Bride and Groom Chibi charms.

I intend to make different ranges of these Chibi charms, and have had a few requests for specific ones. So, I decided to open up a Custom Chibi page in my webstore. I’d already made Shaun of the Dead and Loki for a customer who wanted them as charms to make into her own jewellery, so decided I’d offer that option too. Now you can order your very own Custom Chibi charm to either use to make your own jewellery or you can purchase them ready made into keychains/bag charms.

MATERNITY LEAVE

As most of you are aware, I am expecting a new Little Fairy to add to my brood. Also, as many of you may have seen at Christmas, my baby bump is huge and kind of getting in the way. With this in mind, I have had to stop making my various metal pendants and jewellery as I can’t get close enough to my workbench to saw these items. Highly amusing but none-the-less annoying. As you browse my webstore you will notice that all these items are showing as ‘out of stock’ at present.

In view of this, I have extended my January Sale to last until 17th February 2012 *my expected due date* You can find all items that I have in stock here all at a fantastic 50% off. There is only one available for most of these items, so grab them now.

I do intend to be adding more bead/polymer clay items to my webstore as and when I get the time and energy to make them.

I have also purchased some Precious Metal Clay (PMC) and some polymer clay over the past few days. I know a lot of people that make beads, charms, etc from polymer clay and I was aware that it is a great medium to work with but it wasn’t something I wanted to branch out into, quite frankly, I have enough on my plate working with metal and the occasional beaded items that I make. I did however really want to work with Precious Metal Clay, it seemed like a great way to mould, sculpt and model with silver. I did a bit of research on the web and found that you could make it into a thick paste to paint onto leaves, so my first project involved heading out to my garden to collect leaves.

They worked out really well, so I made some earwires out of sterling silver wire and made them into a cute pair of earrings. This pair has been reserved as a Christmas present for my sister-in-law. I intend to make some more in the very near future that will, hopefully, make it into my store.

I also learnt that you could combine the fired silver clay with polymer clay without effecting it and started thinking about painting scenes and adding decorative polymer clay backgrounds to them.

Luckily, you can buy the PMC in paste form in syringes, which seemed perfect for making intricate, detailed pictures. My main problem was patience, I don’t actually have any. I know I need to wait for the clay to dry before I can peel it off the plastic sheet I was using to ‘paint’ the pictures on, I really tried hard to be patient, I didn’t want to ruin what I had spent time making.

The only problem with a syringe full of PMC is that it needs using fairly quickly before it all dries in the syringe. So after the two scenes I had made, I decided to attempt a spider pendant . . . then I had an idea of making silver fairy wings and using polymer clay to make a fairy silhouette pendant. These pendants are all available in my shop now, simply click on the relevant picture to be taken to the correct page to purchase one.

I admit, I now have the bug for polymer clay too. Not sure how far this will take me, but I’m enjoying playing with a new medium and seeing what exciting things I can make with it.

I now have some Image Transfer Solution to play with to keep me occupied whilst I wait for my silver solder to arrive. this is quite effective on polymer clay pendants so I may get some pretty little clay pendants made whilst I experiment with this new technique.

I also made, for the first time ever, a solid silver headband for a close friend’s daughter’s prom. The young lady designed the headband and the necklace she wanted herself.

I was also asked to make a silver baby bangle for someone. He talked me through exactly how he wanted it and at first I couldn’t see how it would work. I’m very pleased to report that it turned out perfectly and the customer was extremely happy with the end result.

And, of course, zombie inspiration made an appearance. I may have mentioned it a few times but I am a big fan of the Zombie genre and I am also easily distracted . . . sat in my work room one day I noticed I had a piece of silver that was perfectly ring sized and with the rapid approach of The Walking Dead Season 2 I decided that it had to be a silver zombie ring.
